It is not for their Christianity that they get any of the world's honours and encomiums, if such fall to their share. They are unknown and yet well-known. They live for the most part veiled in obscurity. 'The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not. They are God's hidden ones.

Who is better in point of religion than he who resigneth himself unto God, and is a worker of righteousness, and followeth the law of Abraham the orthodox? since God took Abraham for his friend: and to God belongeth whatsoever is in heaven and on earth; God comprehendeth all things.

Composed in elegant language, it includeth the subjects of other books. It is elucidated by other Shastras, and comprehendeth the sense of the four Vedas.

And Someone spoke, in grave sweet accents, so soft and close to him that the words seemed almost whispered in his ears, "Thy prayer is heard, and once again the silence shall be broken. Nevertheless remember that 'the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not'." Deep silence followed.

Whoso can, let him understand this; let him ask of Thee. Why should he trouble me, as if I could enlighten any man that cometh into this world? Which of us comprehendeth the Almighty Trinity? and yet which speaks not of It, if indeed it be It? Rare is the soul, which while it speaks of It, knows what it speaks of. All revenge among Christians is taken away; they must grow up and increase in the fruits of the spirit, among which love is the greatest, for she goeth about with the people. Human reason comprehendeth not, nor understandeth that Christ is our brother. Christ is given unto us that believe with all his benefits and works. Christ cometh unto us by preaching, so that he is in the midst of us.

If good happen unto you, it grieveth them; and if evil befall you, they rejoice at it. But if ye be patient, and fear God, their subtlety shall not hurt you at all; for God comprehendeth whatever they do.

In the human world the characteristics of the mineral, vegetable and animal worlds are found and in addition that of the human kind, namely the intellectual characteristic, which discovereth the realities of things and comprehendeth universal principles. Man, therefore, on the plane of the contingent world is the most perfect being.
