The second member of the firm, while it existed under that name, Hiram Garretson, came like the others from Columbiana county, where he had been brought up, although not a native of the county. Mr. Garretson was born in York county, Pennsylvania, his parents being respectable members of the Society of Friends.
When he was very young the family removed to Columbiana county, Ohio, where the senior Garretson opened a country store in New Lisbon.
