Sir R. Murchison wrote to Russia, in February last, for further information regarding this well. Since I wrote this, Sir Roderick Murchison has applied to the Secretary of the Imperial Academy of St. Petersburg for further information respecting the investigations at Jakutsk. The Secretary gives a reference to Middendorff's Sibirische Reise, Bd. iv. Th. i., 3te Lieferung, Klima, 1861.
The title of this work would not lead the reader to expect what he will find; valuable notices on mineralogy, agriculture, arts, and manufactures, in the midst of light and lively sketches of manners, places of amusement, &c. Bode’s complete translation was issued probably in October, possibly late in September, 1768, and bore the imprint of the publisher Cramer in Hamburg and Bremen, but the volumes were printed at Bode’s own press and were entitled “Yoricks Empfindsame Reise durch Frankreich und Italien, aus dem Englischen übersetzt.”

The first part of this word, huel, is exactly the prefix to the names of many of the mines in Cornwall.

When out of ear-shot I ask Pagan whether there are many gorillas, elephants, or bush cows round here.
