The prominent event was Young's discovery of the "reversing layer."
And I suspect that as much as this at least if not indeed a good deal more will be freely admitted by every candid investigator of Sir Norman Lockyer's theory. The seat of Sir William Ramsay's labors is the University College, London.
It is, in Professor Lockyer's own words, "little more than a collection of sheds," but within these alleged sheds may be found an excellent equipment of telescopes, both refracting and reflecting, and of all other things requisite to the peculiar study which forms the subject of special research here.

Might it not be wise to trust rather to an Airy, or a De la Rue, or a Lockyer's account of what he had observed during a solar eclipse than to your own immediate observations on the same occasion?
