If in this case, at the making of Peace, men require for themselves, that which they would not have to be granted to others, they do contrary to the precedent law, that commandeth the acknowledgement of naturall equalitie, and therefore also against the law of Nature. The observers of this law, are those we call Modest, and the breakers Arrogant Men.
For seeing every man, not onely by Right, but also by necessity of Nature, is supposed to endeavour all he can, to obtain that which is necessary for his conservation; He that shall oppose himselfe against it, for things superfluous, is guilty of the warre that thereupon is to follow; and therefore doth that, which is contrary to the fundamentall Law of Nature, which commandeth To Seek Peace.
A vivid flush rose to her cheek, but she stood quite still in the place where he had found her, and he came and bent his knee and kissed her hand with the customary homage. "Else might I not have crossed the Piazza," she said, "nor left the gate of the Castle. It is easy to forfeit one's head at a moment of wrath where Rizzo commandeth!
He, verily, speaketh the truth and commandeth that which benefitteth His servants and handmaidens. He is the Protector of all in this world and the next. Extracts From the Writings and Utterances of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá: 55: The Lord, peerless is He, hath made woman and man to abide with each other...

Honey sweet wine, that is the bane of others too, even of all who take great draughts and drink out of measure.
Then Iphigenia greeted her father, saying, "Thou hast done well to send for me, my father." "'Tis true and yet not true, my child." "Thou lookest not well pleased to see me, my father." "He that is a king and commandeth a host hath many cares." "Put away thy cares awhile and give thyself to me." "I am glad beyond measure to see thee." "Glad art thou? Then why dost thou weep?"
And in another place, he condemneth the addition of any other rite whatsoever, to those rites of every sacrament which have been ordained of Christ, Si ceremoniis cujusvis sacramenti, alios addas ritus, &c. Dr Fulk pronounceth, even of signs and rites, that “we must do in religion and God’s service, not that which seemeth good to us, but that only which he commandeth,” Deut. iv. 2; xii. 32.
