In the south transept, separated from us by the full breadth of the minster, there were painted glass windows, of which the uppermost appeared to be a great orb of many-colored radiance, being, indeed, a cluster of saints and angels whose glorified bodies formed the rays of an aureole emanating from a cross in the midst.
The tomb of Cardinal de Richelieu, in the southern transept, is the chef-d'oeuvre of Gérardon. The first transept cuts the nave beneath the sixth, and the second beneath the ninth vault. In the Cathedral of Lucca, near the entrance door of the north transept, there is a monument by Jacopo della Quercia to Ilaria di Caretto, the wife of Paolo Guinigi.
