So he kissed the ground before Judar and called down blessings on him; and Judar said to him, "What is thy business, O Wazir?" Replied he, "O my lord, thy friend King Shams Al-Daulah saluteth thee with the salaam and longeth to look upon thy face; wherefore he hath made thee an entertainment. So say, wilt thou heal his heart and eat of his banquet?"

So rich is joy that it thirsteth for woe, for hell, for hate, for shame, for the lame, for the WORLD, for this world, Oh, ye know it indeed! Ye higher men, for you doth it long, this joy, this irrepressible, blessed joy for your woe, ye failures! For failures, longeth all eternal joy. For joys all want themselves, therefore do they also want grief! O happiness, O pain! Oh break, thou heart!

'My soul longeth, saith he, 'yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

For by them we may see with what tender affection God of his great goodness longeth to gather us under the protection of his wings, and how often like a loving hen he clucketh home unto him even those chickens of his that wilfully walk abroad into the kite's danger and will not come at his clucking, but ever, the more he clucketh for them, the farther they go from him.

And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter: which thing ought not to be done. And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.

I am left destitute, an exile in a hostile land, where are daily wars and grievous misfortunes. Console my exile, mitigate my sorrow, for towards Thee all my desire longeth. For all is to me a burden, whatsoever this world offereth for consolation. I yearn to enjoy Thee intimately, but I cannot attain unto it.

If they chanted the glories of the House of God, it was because thither the tribes came up, with this desire in the hearts of the worshippers: Like as the hart desireth the water-brooks, So longeth my soul after thee, O God. My soul is athirst for God. Yea, even for the living God: When shall I come to appear before the presence of God?

Therefore rejoice the soul of Thy servant this day, for unto Thee, O Lord Jesus, do I lift up my soul. I long now to receive Thee devoutly and reverently, I desire to bring Thee into my house, so that with Zacchaeus I may be counted worthy to be blessed by Thee and numbered among the children of Abraham. My soul hath an earnest desire for Thy Body, my heart longeth to be united with Thee.

The tenth commandment is that thou shalt not covet nothing that is, or longeth to, thy neighbor. These be the ten commandments of our Lord, of which the three first belong to God, and the seven other be ordained for our neighbors. Every person that hath wit and understanding in himself, and age, is bound to know them and to obey and keep these ten commandments aforesaid or else he sinneth deadly.

My soul truly waiteth still upon God, For of Him cometh my salvation. Like as the hart desireth the water-brooks, So longeth my soul after Thee, O God. My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the Living God; When shall I come to appear before the presence of God? It is God whom these holy men find.
