The specially French productions of Sevres, Goblins, and Beauvais were carefully studied. The Queen also examined the French Crown jewels, the crown bearing the renowned Regent diamond, which, though less large than the Koh-i-noor, is more brilliant. The Emperor presented the Prince with a magnificent Sevres vase, a souvenir of the Exhibition of 1851.

It was hard, but it had to be done. And by-and-by we grew cheerful again, and the breakfast-table wore something of its old look. The Koh-i-noor, as we named the gentleman with the diamond, left us, however, soon after that "little mill," as the young fellow John called it, where he came off second best.

But the Koh-i-noor the gentleman, you remember, with a very large diamond in his shirt-front laughed his scornful laugh, and made as if to speak. Sail in, Metropolis! said that same young man John, by name. And then, in a lower lane, not meaning to be heard, Now, then, Ma'am Allen!

This magnificent tomb would be a seven days' wonder in itself, were it not so near that greater charm and marvel of loveliness, the Taj. It was from this grand architectural structure that the Koh-i-noor was taken.

Allen's celebrated preparation, each of them asserting, on its word of honor as a bottle, that its former contents were "not a dye," were all that was left to us of the Koh-i-noor. From this time forward, the landlady's daughter manifested a decided improvement in her style of carrying herself before the boarders. She abolished the odious little flat, gummy side-curl.

Besides, all the diamonds which the world contains of that size are almost as well known as the Koh-i-noor. "If it is a diamond, it is worth it is worth Heaven only knows what it isn't worth if it's a diamond." I regarded it through a strong pocket lens. As I did so I could not restrain an exclamation. "The world to a China orange, it is a diamond!"

"Wh-why do you think that?" he asked, nervously fingering his butter-knife. "It's tough luck to have to give away a diamond that's worth three or four times as much as the Koh-i-noor," I said. "Suppose you owned a stone like that. Would you care to give it away?" "Not by a damn sight!" cried Wilkins, forcibly, and I noticed great tears gathering in his eyes.

The gentleman with the diamond the Koh-i-noor, so called by us was not encouraged, I think, by the reception of his packet of perfumed soap. He pulls his purple moustache and looks appreciatingly at Iris, who never sees him, as it should seem.

The Koh-i-noor did not favor us with his company for a day or two, being confined to his chamber, it was said, by a slight feverish, attack. He was chop-fallen always after this, and got negligent in his person. The impression must have been a deep one; for it was observed, that, when he came down again, his moustache and whiskers had turned visibly white about the roots.
