The Achaeans and Eumenes' soldiers first surrendered, on the terms of being allowed to retire in safety. The Romans defended the Euripus with more obstinacy. The Persians had not been unmindful of the danger that the Greeks might retreat by retiring through the Euripus, and so escape them.
