The Federal elections, for which women were entitled to stand as senatorial candidates, had come previously, and though old prejudice had been too strong to the extent of many votes to grasp that a woman might really be a senatrix, and that a vote cast for her would not be wasted, still one woman candidate had polled 51,497 votes where the winning candidate had gone in on 85,387, and this had been no "shrieking sister" such as the clever woman is depicted by those who fear progress, but a beautiful, refined, educated, and particularly womanly young lady in the heyday of youth.
Yet Macedonius had to subscribe the Henotikon. Hence he experienced a strong opposition from the monks, who, in their resolute maintenance of the Council of Chalcedon, declined communion with him; so the nuns also. As the average yearly pay of at least 4,497 of the company's wage workers was little more than $600 or, to be exact, $613.86 this reduction, in a large number of cases, was equivalent to forcing these workers to yield up their labors for substantially nothing.

At one of the sittings of the Threadneedle Street Huguenot Church in London, held in May, 1687 two years after the Revocation not fewer than 497 members were again received into the Church which, by force, they had pretended to abandon.
