The door was closed behind us, and dust and dirt were rubbed over the thin lines which marked where it fitted into the rock, and then we extinguished our lanterns and passed out of the valley on to the pampa. On April 14th, just above Sicuani, we saw fields where habas beans had been gathered and the dried stalks piled in little stacks.
