It is therefore quite probable that Erasmus did not personally superintend the publication of the Julius; but until students of typography can tell us definitely which is the first printed edition, and where it was printed, we cannot be certain. But besides this point of practice born of convenience, there was another born of modesty.
They are now so much curled and wrinkled that they are placed between sheets of bristol board and subjected to hydraulic pressure of several hundred tons which effectively straightens them out. The second process of printing from metallic plates is called typography. The plates for this process are the exact reverse of those engraved in taille douce.
It will be comprised in fifty volumes, to be published in instalments at intervals of six or eight weeks. The mechanical execution is most commendable in every respect: clear, pleasantly tinted paper; typography in the best style of the Riverside Press; binding novel and tasteful. BACHELLER'S Poems in a book very handsome in the points of typography, binding, and illustration is made up of a collection of verse ranging from dramatic incidents of peace and war to lovely idyllic pictures and verse read on academic occasions. The whole collection is marked by virility, simplicity of manner, and genuine strength and feeling.
It would involve much hard and useless work to make war on the anachronisms of historical portraits, and we are not to judge of historical works by their engraved decorations. Here, however, the picture is sober truth itself to what the inquiring reader finds in the typography.

We war not against great libraries.
