The pleura and peritoneum may be thickened and covered with tubercles about the size of a millet seed, or larger.

In violent cases, however, the whole of the intestines exhibit evidence of inflammation.

Their peritoneum is found extremely loaded with fat, and a layer of fat reaches from the abdomen to the anus, forming a kind of cushion between the legs of the bird.
