At Edinburgh an anonymous writer published "The Moravians in Greenland" and "The Moravians in Labrador" . Thus the Brethren had quickened missionary enthusiasm in every part of the United Kingdom. At home, meanwhile, the Brethren moved more slowly.

David Williamson, who had gone out to make the Moravians either move farther off or else come in under the protection of Fort Pitt. Of that Society one of the founders was Rowland Hill. The next attack was of a milder nature. Woe on the Frontier. Until near the close of the year 1782 the frontiers suffered heavily. A terrible and deserved retribution fell on the borderers for their crime in failing to punish the dastardly deed of Williamson and his associates. The Indians were roused to savage anger by the murder of the Moravians, and were greatly encouraged by their easy defeat of Crawford's troops.

And the net result of this policy was that when Bishop Holmes, the Brethren's Historian, published his "History of the Brethren" , he had to record the distressing fact that in England the Moravians had only twenty congregations, in Ireland only six, and that the total number of members was only four thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

Soon afterwards many of the English Moravians fell for a time into a most unsatisfactory condition, becoming largely tainted with Antinomianism, and with a sort of vulgar lusciousness of religious sentiment, which was exceedingly revolting to ordinary English feeling.
