Like enough, the progress is illusory, a mere cat's cradle having been wound and unwound out of words. But the sense of joint discovery is none the less giddy and inspiriting.

Thus we had the sanction of a great example and the stimulus of an inspiriting tradition to point to for the choice of the ground. We had not long to wait for news from the South it came of itself. On Saturday the 5th of August Mr. O'Brien was arrested in Thurles.

At first leaving Government House we had moved on at a gentle canter, but were scarcely outside the gates, before the cheering of the people, the waving of hats, and the rush of so many horses, produced an emulation in the noble steeds that almost took from us the control of their pace, as we dashed over the bridge and up the hill in North Adelaide it was a heart-stirring and inspiriting scene.

In the glorious reaction of the sunshine after the downpour, with its moist warm smells, bespanglement of greenery, and inspiriting touch of rain-washed air, the parks and palaces of the imagination glowed with a livelier iris, and their blurred beauties shone out again with fresh blush and palpitation.

It bumped cruelly on the steps. The Professor pulled the Missing Link to his feet, took him by his rudimentary tail and the scuff of his neck, and ran him out of the shop. He ran the grizzly monster up the street as a publican ejects the unwelcome drunk. The crowd followed, cheering still. It was an inspiriting sight.

For one wild moment the panic-born thought of hurrying back to my purser and begging re-engagement for the outward trip to Australia scuttled across my mind. And then the train jolted to a standstill, and, with a faint kind of nausea in my throat, I stepped out into London. I have to admit that it was not at all a glorious or inspiriting home-coming.

And at that last moment, the inspiriting thought came to Pierre that the great movement of the nations was the instinct, the need which impelled them to return to unity. Originating in one sole family, afterwards parted and dispersed in tribes, thrown into collision by fratricidal hatred, their tendency was none the less to become one sole family again.

It was an inspiriting sight to him then and one which well rewarded him for his labours, since there was not a class from gentlemen to labourers who was not represented there. The FitzHerberts, the Babingtons, the Fentons these, with their servants and guests, accounted for perhaps half of the folk.

First, when we are christened, and after that day by day, if we ask him and often when we ask him not he gives us the gentle baptism of his Holy Spirit, freshening, strengthening, encouraging, inspiriting.

No sooner said than done. On March 8 we left Tumento in our big canoe, passed the night at Riverside House, and next evening were inhaling, not a whit too soon, the inspiriting sea-whiffs of Axim. The rest of my tale is soon told. Cameron recovered health within a week, and resolved to go north again.
