If too great shrinkage occurs, the place may be blown out gently after reheating. Thus the wire is sealed through the wall of the tube without changing the thickness of the latter, and consequently without developing undue stresses at that point. Such a joint must of course be carefully reheated and annealed.

It stands on a brass disc, round the circumference of which is soldered a ring of 5/32-inch copper tubing, furnished with a union for connection with a boiler. The copper tubing must be well annealed, so as to bend quite easily. Bevel off one end, and solder this to the plate.

The Neueste Erfinderung describes an anti-corrosion paint for iron. Two series of experiments were made. In the first series disks of steel 2.5 inches in diameter and 0.01 inch thick were employed. They were all cut from the same strip of metal, but some were "cold-rolled," some "annealed," and some "hardened."

If thought necessary, it may then be well wrapped in cotton and allowed to cool in the air. If not properly annealed the place heated may crack spontaneously when cold, and it is quite certain to crack if it is reheated later. Next in importance to the glass are the blow-pipe and the bellows.

They should be set in between the side sticks, and the lower one should be secured about half an inch above the lower ends of the uprights, as seen in the illustration. The holes should be made in the side pieces, and the wire run across from side to side, as shown. Annealed iron, or copper wire is best for this purpose.

It was then cracked off from the pontil and carried away, a finished liqueur-glass of the tiniest size, to be annealed. After this it might be used in its simple condition, or ornamented with engraving, while the bottom of the foot, still rough from contact with the pontil, was to be ground, smoothed, and then polished. "Oh, how lovely! Look, Miselle, at this ruby glass," cried out Optima.

The tube a is now cut at such a place that when b is inserted in the open end the point will come near the end of the constriction of a, as shown in c. Care is taken to get a clean square cut. The side tube is now cut off about an inch from the main tube and corked. Tube b is sealed into the open end of a, in the same way as a was sealed into the large tube, and the joint carefully annealed.

His face bespoke a strange mixture of gentleness and resolution, melancholy and ferocity, as if an originally fine nature had been annealed by fiery trials, and perhaps perverted by some terrible wrong. "Yes, señor, we carry our lives in our hands in this most unhappy country," he continued, after a short pause.

She had become so thoroughly annealed into his life that she was like the air he breathed necessary but scarcely noticed. Now, without warning, she was gone, vanished, as completely absent as if she had never existed. Of course it would be only for a few days, or at most a week or two, but it seemed to him as if the very hand of death had pointed a finger at his secure and uneventful home.

MATERIAL FOR PROPELLERS. Very light propellers can also be made of thin, annealed aluminum sheets, and the pins in that case will serve as guides to enable you to get the desired pitch. Fiber board may also be used, but this is more difficult to handle.
