We see, therefore, that it is not so much vision as a union of the will, and meanwhile, "the understanding and memory are distraught ... like one who has slept long and dreamed and is hardly yet awake." It is "a soft flight, a delicious flight, a noiseless flight." And in this delicious flight the consciousness of self is preserved, the awareness of distinction from God with whom one is united.
There are many indications in literature in prophetic or poetic form of this awareness and distinct conviction of an eternal life, reached through love and an inner sense of union with others and with humanity at large; indications which bear the mark of absolute genuineness and sincerity of feeling.
However, since God places stumbling-block before those who sin voluntarily, their land has spewed forth its own inhabitants, since they were first deprived of the awareness of true belief, and rightly and justly they have been dispossessed of all earthly possessions.
This is not entirely an illusion. Their bodies do decay and die, as ours do. They are not exempt from the laws of nature. But their AWARENESS of time is computer generated. The basic rules of time for instance, its asymmetry are part of the program. But this is precisely it. Time in the minds of these people is program-generated, not reality-induced.
This actualisation of your true status, your place in the Eternal World, is waiting for you. It represents the next phase in your gradual achievement of Reality. The method by which you will attain to it is strictly analogous to that by which you obtained a more vivid awareness of the natural world in which you grow and move.
It is the fact itself which concerns us here. In the course of our investigations we shall discover the peculiarity in human nature which during the first phase, now ended, of man's struggle towards scientific awareness has caused this renunciation of all sense-experiences except those which come to man through the sight of a single colour-blind eye.
