The less appropriate title of "Bagh O Bahar" was chosen merely in order that the Persian letters composing these words, might, by their numerical powers, amount to 1217, the year of the Hijra in which the book was finished. Vide Hind. Gram., page 20. Mir Amman himself explains the origin and derivation of these words in his preface, and we cannot appeal to a better authority.

I have shown in former works, in describing the system of the Nile, that the great affluents of that river invariably flow from the south-east vide, the Atbara, Blue Nile, Sobat; and the Asua, which is very inferior so the three great rivers named. We have lastly the Victoria Nile of the Victoria N'yanza, following the same principle, and flowing from the south-east to the Albert N'yanza.

Vide Life of the Hon. Sir Dudley North.

"Sire, I am ready to save Germany with my life-blood!" exclaimed the elector, "and as your majesty has come to deliver Germany from Austria, it would be a crime for any German prince to withhold his assistance from you.
