The prayers of the society of Odd-fellows are equally objectionable. In respect to the character of their religious services, they are to be classed with the Masons. Odd-fellowship knows no God but the god of the infidel; it recognizes the Creator of the Universe and the Father of men, but not the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
"Item. Inasmuch as some artisans who came here, such as masons and other workmen, are married and have wives yonder in Spain, and would like to have what is owing them from their wages given to their wives or to the persons to whom they will send their requirements in order that they may buy for them the things which they need here I supplicate their Highnesses to order it paid to them, because it is for their benefit to have these persons provided for here.
Oliver nodded abruptly, looking curiously at the eager pathetic face of the man opposite him; yet it had something, too, of that mask-like priestly look that he had seen before in others like him. This was evidently a devotee. "You are all Masons, of course?" he said. "Why, of course, Mr. Brand." "Very good. I will speak to Mr. Snowford to-day if I can catch him." He glanced at the clock.

Some still had their pipes, which had gone out between their teeth. Four masons poked their white faces out of the windows of a cab which they had hired between them, and on the roof of which their mortar-troughs rocked to and fro.
In the year 1722, the Grand Lodge of England ordered the "Old Charges of the Free and Accepted Masons" to be collected from the ancient records, and, having approved of them, they became a part of the Constitutions of Speculative Freemasonry.
But he, in the hearing of you all, declared that he would come with masons to my house; this was said with too much passion and very intemperately.
"I did; and was eagerly watching the head masons, when I perceived my stout friend coming toward me. "'I like the looks of you, my lad, he said; 'I am an ornamental sculptor. Do you care to learn my trade? "When I heard this proposal, it seemed as if Paradise was opening before me, and I agreed with enthusiasm." "And how about your painting?" "That came later on.
