I daresay you know something of my name and clan, and the damnable example and lamented end of my late father, to say nothing of my own errata.

Moreover he attributed several errata of his own early life to lack of religious principles, and to remedy this defect he now undertook deliberately if we may credit his later confessions to build up a religion of his own.

The errata of present hurried editions, issued now a days, not being revised by the british authors, are so many, that the proprietors of their own works feel more displeased of losing thus, their reputation as writers, than that of finding themselves deprived of the due contribution, we ought justly pay them. Nay, were it to our shame, let us tell the truth.

On his own part Adair admits that his object in this correspondence was to trap the Secretary into something more serious than literary errata. That is, he admits it by implication; he says the Secretary "feared" it.

I daresay you know something of my name and clan, and the damnable example and lamented end of my late father, to say nothing of my own errata.

Had this part of his career been run in Philadelphia its unsavory aroma might have kept him long in ill odor among his fellow townsmen, then little tolerant of profligacy. But the "errata" of a journeyman printer in London were quite beyond the ken of provincial gossips. He easily gained employment in his trade, at wages which left him a little surplus beyond his maintenance.

But it is not perfect like the "Principia;" much of it is rough-hewn, and requires to be thoroughly worked out. It contains numerous misprints and errata, and part of the second volume is so difficult as to be almost unintelligible. Some, in fact, consists of notes written for private use and not intended for publication.

My book is out at last, hurried through the press in a fortnight, a process which half killed me, and has left the volumes, no doubt, full of errata, and you, I mean your house, have not got it. I am keeping a copy for you personally. People say that they like it. I think you will, because it will remind you of this pretty country, and of an old Englishwoman who loves you well. Mrs.

This is one of the least known but most deeply interesting productions of John Bunyan. It has never been reprinted in a separate form; and once only in any edition of his works that with notes, by Mason and Ryland, and then with great carelessness, the errata remaining uncorrected, and one leaf being entirely omitted.

I perused 192 pages of this book while the last form was in composition, and found a moderate number of errata as may be easily corrected by the reader; for instance, he may connect himself in the 7th line of the "Preliminary Remarks" the two particles IN TO in one word, and he may separate where he finds two words close together and change C and E, also N and U and some other letters when required, or add when a letter is omitted, or cast it out when it is superabundant.
