The book has, however, one great fault. It is full of errata. No carefully prepared table of corrections can make amends for such a fault in a book in which typographical correctness is of the greatest importance. To insert in their places with a pen more than two hundred published corrections is a labor which no reader would willingly undertake.
In the 'errata' to the first edition, Bunyan says 'At the first I thought to put out with this a discourage of the two covenants, which since I thought to put forth in a piece by itself. This shows that his great work on the covenants was the fourth volume which he wrote.
Bludyer himself does not fly into a passion over a squat volume published two centuries ago, even when, as in the case of the first edition of Harrington's Oceana, there is such a monstrous list of errata that the writer has to tell us, by way of excuse, that a spaniel has been "questing" among his papers. These scarce and neglected books are full of interesting things.
