The honor system in examinations should be introduced into this college. The course of study in this college should be made wholly elective. Coeducation should be maintained in this college. Secret societies should be prohibited in High School. The business course in High School should be given up. Greek should be given up in School.

Oh, what little account should I make of those great elective dignities that I see in such esteem in the world, that are never conferred but upon men who are taking leave of it; wherein they do not so much regard how well the man will discharge his trust, as how short his administration will be: from the very entry they look at the exit.

In mountains he has too little command over the separate parts, and the direction of all is beyond his powers; in open plains it is simple and does not exceed those powers. According to these undeniable elective affinities, plans should be regulated. THIS is distinguished from mere bravery, and still more from enthusiasm for the business of War.

The Republic, as Rome had founded it, was so impersonal that, in contrast with modern more democratic republics, it had not even a fixed bureaucracy, and all the public functions were exercised by elective magistrates even the executive from public works to the police-system.

"There are two methods by which the change I propose can be made: one by extending the elective franchise to the negro, the other by restrictions upon the political power of those heretofore invested with the elective franchise a part of whom are loyal and a part of whom are disloyal, a part of whom are friends and a part of whom are enemies.

But it stood to reason that if judges were to suspend constitutional limitations according to their notions of reasonableness, the people must have the means of securing judges whose views touching reasonableness coincided with their own. And behold, within ten years, by the constitution of 1846, New York adopted an elective judiciary.

There is here a recognition of the work of the great Yue, as the real founder of the kingdom of China, extending the territory of former elective chiefs, and opening up the country. 'The southern hill' bounded the prospect to the south from the capital of Kau, and hence the writer makes mention of it.

But with the support of the Reformers and of the more moderate among the Family Compact party, Sydenham forced his measure through. A confirming bill passed the British Parliament; and on February 10, 1841, the Union of Canada was proclaimed. The Act provided for the union of the two provinces, under a Governor, an appointed Legislative Council, and an elective Assembly.
