Here, in brief, is the outline of the story: Apollonius was born at Tyana in Cappodocia somewhere about the year 1 A.D., and died in the reign of Nerva at nearly a hundred: tradition ascribed to his birth its due accompaniment of signs and portents.
In Roman times, Philostratus gives an account of the trial of Apollonius of Tyana, accused of human hepatoscopy by sacrificing a boy in the practice of magic arts against the Emperor.
Apollonius of Tyana, the most celebrated of these philosophers, was one of the first who gained his eminence from the study of Eastern philosophy, which was then rising in the opinions of the Greeks as highly worth their notice.
