Between her and the famous author of Le Génie du Christianisme there sprang up a friendship which lasted thirty years. In the last chapter of Edgar Quinet's Revolution Française, a work itself full of irony, of disillusion, he distinguishes two books, Senancour's Obermann and Chateaubriand's Génie du Christianisme, as characteristic of the first decade of the present century.
