We have him in the dining-hall; he was strikingly handsome. Afterward he pretended I'm speaking now of the existing Prince Ernest that it would be ages before the statue was completed.

Kügler, as delineating “a strangely sharp, bony, and severe countenance.” Wohlgemuth was born at Nürnberg in 1434, and died in 1519. His native city still contains some of his best works, particularly in the Moritzkapelle, that sacred resting-place of quaint old art, thus religiously preserved for an age which brings to it few worshippers.

Its influence was felt on every side in art, where the joyous simplicity of Wohlgemuth had given place to the fantastic melancholy of Albrecht Dürer, fit imprint of a troubled and storm-tossed mind; as well as in literature, where the bitter raillery and coarse jests of Hans Sachs, the cobbler-poet, now passed with swift approval from mouth to mouth.

But, do you know, the statue is positively there now, and no one no one who had the privilege of beholding the first bronze Albrecht Wohlgemuth, Furst von Eppenwelzen- Sarkeld, no one will admit that the second is half worthy of him. I can feel to this day the leap of the heart in my mouth when the statue dismounted.
