It seems that the Iunonarium must have been somewhere in the west end of the temple precinct of Fortuna. This is an inscription which mentions a property inside the domain of Praeneste in a region, which in 385 A.D., was called regio Campania, but it can not be located. LACUS, C.I.L., XIV, 2998; Not. d. Scavi, 1902, p. 12.
This temple was a mile or more distant from the city, in the territory now known as Bocce di Rodi, and was situated on the little road which made a short cut between the two great roads, the Praenestina and the Labicana. SACRA VIA, Not. d. Scavi, Ser. 5, 4 , p. 49.
You wander behind the Duomo into the Scavi, and it is not the Roman Baths you go to see or the Etruscan walls and the well-preserved Roman theatre: you watch the clouds on the mountains, the sun in the valley, the shadows on the hills, listen to a boy singing to his goats, play with a little girl who has slipped her hand in yours looking for soldi, or wonder at the host of flowers that has run even among these ruins.
We must conclude that at Marzabotto we have a piece of evidence which we cannot set into its proper historical framework. But it would be well to learn more of the plan by further excavation. Modena, the Roman Mutina, was founded as a 'colonia' with 2,000 male settlers in 183 B.C., and despite various misfortunes became one of the chief towns in the Lombard plain.

On the east there were certainly none: the two narrow parallel streets at the east end of the area just described are obviously due to a growth of houses along the line of the original east wall. How little is it generally known, by those who don't purchase, what large sums are squandered in Italy upon heaps of rubbish, palmed off and sold under the imposing names, roba antica, roba dei scavi, and the like; and how little seems it known by those who do, that of all markets for such acquisitions, the worst that an uninitiated dilettante can have to do with is the Italian!
