This Mucius is called Scaevola by all writers, but Athenodorus, the son of Sandon, in his book which is dedicated to Octavia, the sister of Caesar Augustus, says that he was also named Posthumus.

It is to that posthumous effect that all the hope points here. It is the Leonatus Posthumus who must fulfil this oracle.
His father died fighting in the wars for Cymbeline, and soon after his birth his mother died also for grief at the loss of her husband. Imogen and Posthumus were both taught by the same masters, and were playfellows from their infancy; they loved each other tenderly when they were children, and their affection continuing to increase with their years, when they grew up they privately married.

His bravery, however, has been greatly called in question, and many flagrant instances of his cowardice recorded. How true they may be is not easy to determine. The temple of Janus was now shut for the third time since the foundation of the city. He began his reign, however, with the murder of Agrippa Posthumus, the grandson of Augustus.
