Berlin, le 16/29 Juillet 1914. Sur ma question s'il avait une réponse de Vienne relativement
The Journal simply notes that on June 16th the Duc d'Aumale dined at The Club; and on the 17th 'with Duc d'Aumale to Oxford, where he was made D.C.L. Lunch at All Souls; very pleasant day. Reeve left early and returned at once to Foxholes. From the Duc d'Aumale Chantilly, 1er juillet.
L'Ambassadeur en France au Ministre des Affaires Etrangères. Paris, le 14/27 Juillet 1914.
The Bastille was taken by the people, July 14, 1789, and the National Assembly decreed its demolition.... The massive circular pedestal upon which the Colonne de Juillet now rests was intended by Napoleon I. to support a gigantic fountain in the form of an elephant, instead of the column which, after the destruction of the Bastille, the "tiers etat" of Paris had asked to erect "a Louis XVI., restaurateur de la liberte publique."
Ai reçu votre télégramme du 13-26 Juillet. Prie me télégraphier si,
I must get M. Thureau's 'Histoire de la Monarchic de Juillet, of which I never even heard. It is dreadful to reflect how utterly behindhand one gets in all things, literary, artistic, and political, through long sojourns out of Europe. But I do hope there is some prospect of M. de Sainte-Aulaire's Memoirs themselves being published at full length.
No. 20. L'ambassadeur en Angleterre au Ministre des Affaires Etrangères. Londres, le 12/25 Juillet 1914.
A gentleman in black with ringlets and a tuft stood gazing fiercely about him, with one hand in the arm-hole of his waistcoat and the other holding his claque. "By Jupiter, it's Mirobolant!" cried Strong, bursting out laughing. "Bon jour, Chef! Bon jour, Chevalier!" "De la croix de Juillet, Chevalier!" said the Chef, laying his hand on his decoration.
The body was disfigured beyond recognition: even the slender bones of the hands had been stripped by the nibs of the sea-birds-except one finger, the third of the left, which seemed to have been protected by a ring of gold, as by a charm. Graven within the plain yellow circlet was a date, "JUILLET 1851"; and the names, "ADELE + JULIEN," separated by a cross.
M. de Dellancourt, in his Observations Minéralogiques, Journal de Physique Juillet 1786, in describing the mountains of Dauphiné, gives us the following fact with regard to those alpine vertical strata.
