INTESTINAL WORMS OF SHEEP. The most widely distributed and seemingly most injurious intestinal worm of sheep is the OEsopliagostomum columbianum. It penetrates the lining membrane of the intestines and encysts in the intestinal wall. A tumor, varying in size from that of a millet seed to a hazelnut, then forms in the wall of the intestine.

He had found a nugget the size of a hazelnut in the second pan that morning, so it was not discouragement that had made his monotonous movements grow slow and reluctant. Until he had smoked half the cigarette, he himself did not know what it was that ailed him. Then he flung up his head quite suddenly and gave a snort of understanding. "Hang the gold! I'm going visiting for a change."

It was there that he occupied both sides of the lane and gave commands to await the enemy. Accustomed to forest life and war, the Zmudzians took advantage of the logs, cuts and clumps of young hazelnut growths, and fir saplings so that it seemed as if the earth had swallowed them up. No one spoke, neither did the horses snort.

"Now, by my faith," cried the Cook, as he rattled the pottle against the sideboard, "I like that same song hugely, and eke the motive of it, which lieth like a sweet kernel in a hazelnut." "Now thou art a man of shrewd opinions," quoth Little John, "and I love thee truly as thou wert my brother." "And I love thee, too.

Water should gradually be lessened as growth ceases and foliage begins to yellow until the soil quite dries out, when it may be passed through a sieve and even the smallest bulblet secured. The little seedling bulbs, ranging in size from a wheat grain to a hazelnut, keep best in dry sand and should be sown next season like peas in drills in the garden.

They ranged from the size of a pin-head to that of a bean, and were varied in shade, from pure crystal to straw-colour. The broker then opened one or two separate parcels, each of which contained a specially large or fine diamond, varying in size from a pea to a hazelnut. "That one," he said, "may be worth four hundred pounds, and this, perhaps about five or six hundred."

But the Giant helped him out. "Don't be scared," he said, "I'll give you a boost." And he reached down his mighty hand and placed it under the seat of Marmaduke's trousers. The little boy looked no bigger than the kernel of a tiny hazelnut rolling around in the big palm. But very gently the big fingers set him on the tall shoulder, way, way above the bottom of that pit, but very safe and sound.

"Oh, but won't you walk with me to the party?" asked Susie, sort of teasing like. "I'm afraid to go through the woods alone, because Johnnie Bushytail, the squirrel boy, said you and he met a bear there yesterday." "We did!" laughed Uncle Wiggily. "But the hazel bush drove him away by showering nuts on his nose." "Well, I might not be so lucky as to have a hazelnut bush to help me," spoke Susie.

The setting sun shone full upon the leafy edge of the wood; hazelnut and beech and oak and clumps of briar rose quivered under the rough kiss of the wind that blew straight across the lowland from the southwest, bringing with it still the confusion of sounds the weird cannonades and dismal bugle-calls in such strange contrast to the rustle of the leaves and the crackling of tiny twigs in the tangled coppice.

The colonel went and convinced himself of the correctness of my statement. He returned in the greatest anger, addressed some officer in Russian, gave some orders and went along the front to hear Schehl's report confirmed by several other prisoners. The officer who had received orders returned, accompanied by six Uhlans, each of the latter with hazelnut sticks.
