Glancing idly at the names of these villages, I noticed that they most of them ended in siel a repulsive termination, that seemed appropriate to the whole region. There were Carolinensiel, Bensersiel, etc.
Here it split into two mouths, both furnished with locks, and emptying into two little mud-hole harbours, replicas of Bensersiel, each owning its cluster of houses. It was as clear as possible, therefore, that the latter had watched us, and was in touch with the Blitz, and that both had seized the opportunity of our being cooped up in Bensersiel to take further stock of us. What had passed hitherto? Nothing much.
