DOOLITTLE was born in Hampton, New York, January 3, 1815. He graduated at Geneva College in 1834, became a lawyer, and for several years held the office of District Attorney for Wyoming County.

What became of the remnants of the race we do not know.
Markets were opened at several places in the interior, and coastwise commerce developed so much that, in A.D. 553, it was found expedient to appoint an official for the purpose of numbering and registering the vessels thus employed. There had not apparently been any officially recognized weights and measures in remote antiquity.

Cato's father had by his wife Livia a daughter Porcia, who married J. Domitius Ahenobarbus. The meaning of Plutarch is perhaps not quite clear. It is described by Virgil, Æneid, v. 553, &c.
