Monday morning the work of preparation for departure into the wilderness began. My crew numbered four, chief among whom was George Elson, who had loyally served Mr. Hubbard in 1903, and who, with rare skill and rarer devotion, had recovered Mr. Hubbard's body and his photographic material from the interior in the depths of the following winter.

Since 1903 he has been devoting himself completely to composition. He is living at present in Medford, Massachusetts.

It was a seal-impression, found in 1903, in the Temple Repositories, on which a great sea-monster, with dog's head and open jaws, is seen rising from the waves and attacking a fisherman, who stands up in his light skiff endeavouring to defend himself.

They were a pretty fine looking lot of handsome young chaps," and curling an imaginary moustache, he continued: "Almost as good as our eleven of 1903," and they both stood and toasted grand old Harvard, and he was leaving the room singing, "Here's to dear old Harvard, drink her down!" when Edestone called him back and said: "Lawrence, get one of the Embassy automobiles and I will drop you on the way."

Hunter's that I have seen is the "Dante and Beatrice," Academy, 1900, and the impression I received leads me to think an article in the Studio, June, 1903, a just estimate of her work. It is by A. L. Baldry, who writes: "In the band of young artists who are at the present time building up sound reputations which promise to be permanent, places of much prominence must be assigned to Mr.

These artists are now, November, 1903, engaged upon a landscape frieze for a dining-room in a house at Watch Hill. Miss Genevieve Cowles writes: "We feel that we are only at the beginning of our life-work, which is to be chiefly in mural decoration and stained glass. I desire especially to work for prisons, hospitals, and asylums for those whose great need of beauty seems often to be forgotten."

Petitions for Presidential suffrage with about 32,000 signatures had been secured to be presented to the Legislature of 1903. There was an increased vote of women at the spring election and forty-two were elected as county officers, for whom only men could vote. The State convention of 1903 was held in Abilene December 8-9 and Miss Kimber was again re-elected.

Although the first actual flight of an aeroplane was made by the Wrights on December 17th 1903, it is necessary, in considering the progress of design between that period and the present day, to go back to the earlier days of their experiments with 'gliders, which show the alterations in design made by them in their step-bystep progress to a flying machine proper, and give a clear idea of the stage at which they had arrived in the art of aeroplane design at the time of their first flights.

Discontent grew general, and by the end of October, 1903, General Carlos F. Morales, governor of Puerto Plata, raised the standard of revolt and his troops marched on the capital. The revolution was supported by both parties, the Jimenistas and Horacistas, and was known as the "war of the union."

We were bound to France by the Entente Cordiale, and France was bound to Russia. Petar Karageorgevitch was Russia's choice. Russia had quite decided that Bulgaria, by means of which she had first planned to work, would never voluntarily be her vassal state and act as land-bridge to Constantinople, and had therefore, in 1903, definitely preferred Serbia.
