Is the bad report of it in Act IV, made by Hortensio, as the Musician, Lisio, with Tranio, quite fair to her? The abusive opinion and jealousy of Hortensio assisted by the supposed Lucentio narrow down the uncertainties of the courtship so as to concentrate interest on the new scheme of the supposed father. How is this worked out?
Lucentio, Bianca's husband, and Hortensio, the other new-married man, could not forbear sly jests, which seemed to hint at the shrewish disposition of Petruchio's wife, and these fond bridegrooms seemed highly pleased with the mild tempers of the ladies they had chosen, laughing at Petruchio for his less fortunate choice.

Baptista, a rich Paduan gentleman, has two daughters, Katharine, the shrew, and Bianca, of sweet and lovable disposition. Both Hortensio and Lucentio are in love with Bianca; but the obdurate father will not listen to either until Katharine shall have been married.
So they journeyed on to Baptista's house, and arriving there, they found all folks keeping Bianca's wedding feast, and that of another newly married couple, Hortensio and his wife.
"I wonder what it means," said Hortensio. "It means peace," said Petruchio, "and love, and quiet life." "Well," said Baptista, "you have won the wager, and I will add another twenty thousand crowns to her dowry another dowry for another daughter for she is as changed as if she were someone else."
"Go and entreat my wife to come to me at once." "Oh if you entreat her," said Petruchio. "I am afraid," answered Hortensio, sharply, "do what you can, yours will not be entreated." But now the servant came in, and said "She says you are playing some jest, she will not come." "Better and better," cried Petruchio; "now go to your mistress and say I command her to come to me."
If the earthquake did not time it we should know where to place poor Wat, sitting in his form, the cry of hounds, the studded bridle and her blue windows. That memory, Venus and Adonis, lay in the bedchamber of every light-of-love in London. Is Katharine the shrew illfavoured? Hortensio calls her young and beautiful.
"Where is your sister and Hortensio's wife?" said he. Katharine replied, "They sit conferring by the parlor fire." "Go, fetch them hither!" said Petruchio. Away went Katharine without reply to perform her husband's command. "Here is a wonder," said Lucentio, "if you talk of a wonder." "And so it is," said Hortensio. "I marvel what it bodes."
Lucentio and Hortensio raised the wager to a hundred crowns, and Lucentio first sent his servant to desire Bianca would come to him. But the servant returned, and said: "Sir, my mistress sends you word she is busy and cannot come." "How," said Petruchio, "does she say she is busy and cannot come? Is that an answer for a wife?"
