"In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. "Done at the city of Washington this nineteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-sixth. "By the President. "WILLIAM H. SEWARD, Secretary of State."

The famous Abbey of St. Claude was visited by Louis XI in order to fulfil a vow still mysterious in history. This was under the regime of its eighty-sixth Abbot, Peter Morel, but, after a period of almost unequalled glory and magnificence, fire, pillage, and other misfortunes visited it from time to time, till the suppression of the Abbey in 1798.

He died universally regretted, at Paris, the twenty-fourth of June, 1760, in the eighty-sixth year of his age.

Fox at the end of the dance. Mr. Fox, who is one of society's perennial beaux, knows everybody. "She is well, she was Abner Fairbrother's wife. You know Fairbrother, the millionaire who built that curious structure on Eighty-sixth Street. At present they are living apart an amicable understanding, I believe. Her diamond makes her conspicuous.
