Outside the pane the moths crawled, some brilliant in scarlet and tan-color set with black, some snow-white with black tracings on their wings, and bodies peacock-blue edged with orange. The scientist in me was aroused; I called her to the window, and she came and leaned against the sill, nose pressed to the glass.

The entire process does not occupy over an hour and the result is a color much like that now known as "old gold." On buckskin this makes a brilliant tan-color; but applied to wool it produces a much paler tint. Two posts, a a, are set firmly in the ground; to these are lashed two cross-pieces or braces, b c, the whole forming the frame of the loom.

Even on cloudy days its presence helps to dispel the gloom. The elm, the oak, the beech, possess in a much less degree that quality of luminosity, though certain species of oak at times are rich in shades of red and bronze. The leaves of the trees just named for the most part turn brown before they fall. The great leaves of the sycamore assume a rich tan-color like fine leather.

A tablespoonful difference in the pint or gill measure would, where the gelatine is only just enough, cause the jelly tosquatnot an elegant term, but one that represents the form of a too soft jelly. Cinnamon has a bright tan-color, is rolled many times, and is not much thicker than paper when a piece is unrolled.

Once was when the new drugget went down, at last, in the dining-room. It was tan-color, bound with crimson, covering three square yards; and mother nailed it down with brass-headed tacks, right after breakfast, one cool morning.
