The essays are more remarkable, although, like Montaigne's, they are scarcely described by their titles. That on Conversation is really a little treatise on good breeding; that on the Characters of Men, a lay sermon against Fielding's pet antipathy hypocrisy.

Nic Machiavel and Monsieur Bodin, both Were of this mind. In vain we have looked for traces of Montaigne's Essays in other dramas that have come down to us from that epoch.
