I want you to realise here, then, that the Christ in humanity is the life-giver of the soul. They who are possessed of the Christ spirit are they who have and can give the more abundant life. We have briefly examined the two tendencies of which I have spoken; have you realised that in the things of the spirit the deathward tendency is what we call sin?

"For thousands of years, since the master life-giver had come from one of the stars to populate the world, the Oroid nation had dwelt in peace and security. These people cared nothing for adventure. No restless thirst for knowledge led them to explore deeply the limitless land surrounding them.

"For," said he to himself, "I will call forth her soul from where it sleeps, like an unawakened echo, in an unknown cave; and like a child, of whom I once dreamed, that was mine, and to my delight turned in fear from all besides, and clung to me, this soul of hers will run with bewildered, half-sleeping eyes, and tottering steps, but with a cry of joy on its lips, to me as the life-giver.

God is the God of comfort, known of man as the refuge, the life-giver, or not known at all. But alas! he cannot come to him! Nowhere can he see his face! He has hid himself from him! 'Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

All these Christ sweeps away, so that we may say, 'He hath abolished Death, even though we all have to pass through the mere externals of dying, for the dread of Death is gone for ever, if we trust Him. And then note, still further, we have Christ here as the Life-giver. 'Young man, I say unto thee, Arise! Christ took various methods of imparting His miraculous power.

Old Gregorics's father used to call it the "Life-giver," and often said: "If a man intending to commit suicide were to drink a thimbleful of it beforehand, he would, if unmarried, go and look up a 'best man, or, if married, would go and sue for a divorce; but kill himself he would not." The two friends drank to each other's health, and Gregorics smacked his lips. "It's devilish good," he said.
