Finally, we have at the end a small rudimentary caudal column, the coccyx. Morphologically, however, it is of great interest as an irrefragable proof of the descent of man and the anthropoids from long-tailed apes. On no other theory can we explain the existence of this rudimentary tail. In the earlier stages of development the tail of the human embryo protrudes considerably.

FRANKLINII.
It is always to be seen in the continuation of this central zone, in the midst of the fine white foam gathered up by the caudal filaments.
