"Listen," said Seumas, "let me be the Leprecaun, and you be the two children, and I will ask you our names." So they did that. The next day the Leprecaun came again. He sat down beside the children and, as before, he was silent for a little time. "Are you not going to ask us our names, sir?" said Seumas. His sister smoothed out her dress shyly. "My name, sir, is Brigid Beg," said she.
"I can jump better than Brigid already," replied Seumas, "and I'll jump as well as you do when I get more practice keep in your head, sir." Almost without noticing it they had passed through the edge of the wood, and were playing into a rough field which was cumbered with big, grey rocks.

They have to do the thing they speak of in order to visualise the idea, and, consequently, Seumas Beg was soon reconstructing the earlier visit of the policemen to their house in grand pantomime.
"Wild and unspoilt, a country of cairn-crowned hills and dark, watered valleys, it bears even to this day something of the freshness of the heroic dawn." The work of Seumas O'Sullivan, born in 1878, has often been likened to that of W. B. Yeats, but I can see little similarity either in spirit or in manner.
The Leprecaun who had enticed them away from home brought them back again, and on parting he begged the children to visit Gort na Cloca Mora whenever they felt inclined. "There's always a bit of griddle bread or potato cake, and a noggin of milk for a friend," said he. "You are very kind, sir," replied Seumas, and his sister said the same words.
A like minute and faithful knowledge is evident in the work of two story-tellers of the north, Seumas MacManus and Shan Bullock. The former's outlook is humorous and pathetic. He tells fairy and folk tales well, and is a past master of the dialect and idiom that combine to give his old-wives' yarns an honest smack of the soil.
