E. H. Harriman's Sultana, Morton F. Plant's Vanadis, P. W. Rouss's Winchester, Aphrodite, the O. H. Payne estate; F. G. Bourne's Alberta, and Edward Harkness's Wakiva these great yachts among other steam-driven palaces, passed into the hands of the Navy Department in one way or another, and have performed valiant service. Some of them, indeed, have ended their careers violently in service.
Harkness's gold watch I have placed with the Express Company, which will carry it to you for your disposal. "Most affectionately, madam, I am ever yours, Mary." Agnes' letter, which, as we have said, was enclosed in the above, was worded as follows: Shreveport, La., Oct. 2d, 1873. My Darling, Ever Beloved Mother: You will notice that this letter is written by another hand than mine.
Bob never had any poetry in his soul no romance, as you might say. He was what you might call a plodder you might call him that. Get up, my nag, get up. There's the old Harkness place seems to be spruced up considerable. Folks used to say if ye wanted to see how the world looked the morning after the flood just go into George Harkness's barn-yard on a rainy day.
It soon proved that memory lay neither in Harkness's head nor in his feet; when he had veered aimlessly about for half an hour, evidently fearing to commit himself to a definite course, and when the wind came whooping down, rolling a twilight smother ahead of it, Folsom turned his dogs into the nearest depression and urged them to a run.
