I suppose long before this our myriads of "special telegraph" men have sent you over details and anecdotes such as we shall never see. We get a meagre "communiqué official" and have to be content with that. It is now and then hard for me, who have been accustomed to something different. None of our shops is open yet.

Each Kingdom is to have its right to decide on the establishment of its own Consular service; the identical laws are only to regulate the relations between the Consuls on the one side, and the Minister for Foreign affairs and diplomatic representatives on the other. When the Communiqué was issued, it was received with very great diversity of feelings on both sides of the State boundaries.

'I shall read, he said, putting on a pair of glasses, 'the latest communiqué from the front. We have done very well. The news is quite good quite good. "This morning, on a front of three miles, after an intense artillery preparation, the Australians" ''OORAY! roared the Cockney.

Walking side by side, like ushers in a wedding procession, two of the ship's officers made interminable rounds of the deck. Now and then they stopped and looked over the rail at the loading operations, and once in low tones they discussed the day's communiqué. The younger, blond, pale, with a wispy yellow mustache, listened casually, his eyes fixed on the turbulence below.

General Pellé's, on the other hand, seemed too alarming. I had purposely omitted von Deimling's order of the day. To put it into the communiqué would be to break with the formula to which the public was accustomed, would be to transform it into a kind of pleading.

One more victory, and this one had the honor of appearing in the official communiqué. Sometimes he got back with his machine and his clothes riddled with bullet-holes. He carried fire and massacre up into the sky. And all this was nothing as yet but the exercise of a knight-errant in his infancy. This became evident later when he had acquired complete mastery of his work.

A German official communique, in order to prove that the general rising of the people had been organized for a long time, declares, "that depots of arms were installed, where each rifle bore the name of the man for whom it was intended."

"And what news are you talking about now?" He continued to pant and wipe while the porter read from his copy of the Bund, the German official communique of the previous day's fighting on the Somme. "I don't like it," said the porter, when he had finished. "It looks as if we were losing ground. Those English." Herr Haase pocketed his handkerchief and took the large envelope in his hand again.

Is Rumania still trembling on the brink? What does the French communiqué say? These and a hundred other questions descend on me with frightful insistence. Clearly I can't go to bed without having them answered. But there is not an evening paper to be got nearer than the little railway station in the valley two miles away, and there is no way of getting it except by Shanks' mare.

The French Ministry of War, in its official communique of the military situation, issued at 11.30 this evening, states that the French troops are in contact with the enemy along almost the entire front. The only fighting that has taken place, however, has been engagements between the outposts, in which the French soldiers everywhere showed irresistible courage and ardor.
