It is only when Grabe refers to the Simonian Antirrhêtikoi Logoi, mentioned by the Pseudo-Dionysius, which he calls "vesani Simonis Refutatorii Sermones," that we get any new information.

At the sight of all these incomplete beings, a simple Saint Simonian, ingenuous enough to believe in his own doctrine, charitably paired them off, designing, no doubt, to convert them into monks of his order. A few men of science mingled in the conversation, like nitrogen in the atmosphere, and several vaudevillistes shed rays like the sparking diamonds that give neither light nor heat.

The growth of the Simonian legend must unfold itself before the reader in its native form as it comes from the pens of those who have constructed it.

Simonian connections, and finally by his position in the University, does not seem to admit that a pupil can have any other inclination than to obey the regulations, a sectarian any other thought than that of his chief, a public functionary any other opinion than that of the government.

Simonian, had brought him up in the doctrines of that belief. While retaining due respect for it, however, his personal inclinations towards orderliness and religion had led him to espouse the ideas of Fourier, in such wise that one found in him a succession and an abridgment, so to say, of two doctrines. Moreover, when he was about thirty, he had busied himself with spiritualism.

Armand Monnier looked pleased. He liked praise; and he liked to hear himself talk, and he plunged at once into a very complicated sort of Christianity, partly Arian, partly Saint Simonian, with a little of Rousseau and a great deal of Armand Monnier.

Here is the above mystery of that flame which comes out from it, and in it is the Wisdom of the Above. A striking similarity with the Simonian system, indeed, rendered all the closer by the Oracle which speaks of that: Which first leaped forth from Mind, enveloping Fire with Fire, binding them together that it might interblend the mother-vortices, while retaining the flower of its own Fire.

Let us now take a brief glance at the Symbolical Tree of Life, which plays so important a part in the Simonian Gnôsis. Not, however, that it was peculiar to this system, for several of the schools use the same symbology. For instance, in the Pistis-Sophia the idea is immensely expanded, and there is much said of an Aeonian Hierarchy called the Five Trees.
