According to the legal note of this transaction, "Henry ffeilding and Charlotte his wife" conveyed, in the Trinity Term of 1738, to one Thomas Hayter, for the sum of L260, "two messuages, two dove-houses, three gardens, three orchards, fifty acres of Land, eighty acres of meadow, one hundred and forty acres of pasture, ten acres of wood and common and pasture for all manner of cattle with the appurtenances in East Stour."

"But then," said my mother, "your uncle will mope himself to death, and your father will have no relaxation, while you see that he has lost his former object in his books. And Blanche and you too. If we were only to contribute what dear Roland does, I do not see how, with L260 a year, we could ever bring our neighbors round us! I wonder what Austin would say!

The credits opened for them amounted, during the course of their stay abroad, to some L260. Miss Meteyard's A Group of Englishmen, p. 99. After quoting the two concluding lines of the poem, "Fire's" rebuke of her inconstant sisters, in the words "I alone am faithful, I Cling to him everlastingly," Nobody else, barring the author, knew at first whose good name was at stake.

Now, only 15,000 tons are made per annum by Leblanc's process. Yet it was all wasted! And this estimate does not include the fats of the suint, which are worth an even greater sum.

He informed me also that the whole district around the lough, together with all its islands, belonged to Colonel L , a relation of the Duke of Wellington; and that this gentleman, as landlord, had leased the ferry of the island to certain persons who had contracted to pay him L260 a year; and to make up this sum, and obtain a suitable income for themselves, the ferrymen charged each pilgrim five pence.

Altogether the booty is reckoned at about four millions of our money the share of each soldier engaged being 10,000 dirhems, or about L260. sterling.
