In these anomalous mood reactions it seems as if there were a definite dissociation of affect, and so there is. How then can we differentiate these emotional symptoms from thedissociation of affectwhich is regarded as a cardinal symptom of dementia præcox? The answer is that this term is used too loosely as applied to the latter psychosis.

Thus far we have seen only a part of the work of dissociation and, taking it all in all, the smallest part. We have, seemingly, considered images as isolated facts, as psychic atoms; but that is a purely theoretic position.

Association by resemblance presupposes a joint labor of association and dissociation it is an active form. Consequently it is the principal source of the material of the creative imagination, as the sequel of this work will sufficiently show. After this rather long but necessary preface, we come to the intellectual factor rightly so termed, which we have been little by little approaching.

Correctly speaking, the interesting question is not whether there is unity, multiplicity, combination, one with the other, but to see what sort of unity, multiplicity, or combination realises the case in point; above all, to understand how the living person is at once multiple unity and one multiplicity, how these two poles of conceptual dissociation are connected, how these two diverging branches of abstraction join at the roots.

He will, furthermore, instead of composing mixtures on his palette, place upon his canvas touches of none but the seven colours juxtaposed, and leave the individual rays of each of these colours to blend at a certain distance, so as to act like sunlight itself upon the eye of the beholder. This, then, is the theory of the dissociation of tones, which is the main point of Impressionist technique.

Their complete dissociation from popular control, the fact that they receive extra pay for any work performed for local bodies, in addition to rewards received from the Inland Revenue for the detection of illicit stills, and the fact the only connection of police administration with local bodies occurs when any county is called upon to pay for the additional force drafted into it on account of local disturbance, all exert their influence in the same direction.

We are thus dealing with rather large ions, but according to Mr Wilson, this condensation phenomenon does not affect the number of ions produced by dissociation. In proportion as the temperature rises, the molecules condensed round the nucleus disappear, and, as in all other circumstances, the negative ion tends to become an electron, while the positive ion continues the size of an atom.

A painter, a sportsman, a dealer, and an uninterested spectator do not see a given horse in the same manner: the qualities that interest one are unnoticed by another. The image being a simplification of sensory data, and its nature dependent on that of previous perceptions, it is inevitable that the work of dissociation should go on in it. But this is far too mild a statement.

"You have now seen in operation one of the grandest results of our occult philosophy, the dissociation of spirit from body.

We must distinguish, then, in the case of En-lil, at least four phases: 1. His original rôle as a local deity; The extension of his power to the grade of a great 'lord' over a large district; Dissociation from local origins to become the supreme lord of the lower world; and The transfer of his name and powers as god of Nippur to Marduk, the god of Babylon.
