"Prayer is communion between the slave and his lord, and in it are ten virtues: it illumineth the heart; it maketh the face shine; it pleaseth the Compassionate One; it angereth Satan; it conjureth calamity; it wardeth off the mischief of enemies; it multiplieth mercy; it forfendeth vengeance and punishment; it bringeth the slave nigh unto his lord; and it restraineth from lewdness and frowardness.

Moreover, to each Pyramid there is a guardian treasurer who keepeth watch over it and wardeth it, to all eternity, against the ravages of time and the shifts of events; and indeed the marvels of these Pyramids astound all who have sight and insight. Many are the poems that describe them, thou shalt thereby profit no small matter, and among the rest, quoth one of them,

For let whoso amid the cloud of war from his beloved country wardeth the bloody shower, and maketh havoc in the enemy's host, know assuredly that for the race of his fellow-citizens he maketh their renown wax mightily, yea when he is dead even as while he was yet alive.
