E. brought an elegant mare and Coalt and Gave us. and Said he had opend. his ears to what we had Said and his heart was glad and requested us to take this mare and Coalt as a token of his deturmination to pursue our Councels &c.

I joined Capt Lewis and the party at 6 miles, at which place the river washed the bottom of high Clifts on the N. Side.
The wind blew hard this evening. We Should make more portages if the Season was not So far advanced and time precious with us The wife of Shabono our interpetr we find reconsiles all the Indians, as to our friendly intentions a woman with a party of men is a token of peace
