That a declaration may be an appropriate remedy for both jurisdictional errors and closely analogous defects such as unfairness or breaches of natural justice is shown by such Privy Council and House of Lords decisions as De Verteuil v. Knaggs A.C. 557, Pyx Granite Co. Ltd. v. Ministry of Housing A.C. 260, and Ridge v. Baldwin A.C. 40.
This was the account they gave of themselves, to our no small amusement. From the Kakalin to the Butte des Morts, where lived a man named Knaggs, was our next day's stage.
Knaggs relates an interesting account of a sequel to an operation for ovarian disease. Following the operation, there was a regular, painless menstruation every month, at which time the lower part of the wound re-opened, and blood issued forth during the three days of the catamenia.
The annual convention of the association promptly met the situation by appointing a Constitutional Revision Committee headed by Mrs. May Stocking Knaggs of Bay City, a former president, and each auxiliary was invited to appoint one woman to serve on an advisory committee.
"We have no tent," replied my husband, "and the weather is too cold to risk the exposure without one." "I could sit in a chair all night, by the fire." "Then you would not be able to ride to Bellefontaine to-morrow." There was no alternative. The only thing Mr. Knaggs could furnish in the shape of bedding was a small bear-skin.
Knaggs, and the bright fire, were most cheering objects; and, as we had only broken our fast since morning with a few crackers we carried in our pockets, I must own we did ample justice to her nice coffee and cakes, not to mention venison-steaks and bear's meat, the latter of which I had never before tasted. Our supper over, we looked about for a place of repose.
The room in which we had taken our meal was of small dimensions, just sufficient to accommodate a bed, a table placed against the wall, and the few chairs on which we sat. There was no room for any kind of a "shakedown." "Where can you put us for the night?" inquired my husband of Mr. Knaggs, when he made his appearance.
Food Reform Restaurant. I have often enjoyed meals at the above restaurant. They cater, and cater well, for the ordinary Vegetarian, but with a little care in the selection of the menu, abstainers from salt, fermented bread, etc., can also obtain a satisfactory meal. "The Healthy Life." I may, however, mention the valuable work contributed to it by Dr. Knaggs and Mr. Saxon. "Herald of Health."
