I heard the most eloquent of their advocates say, when comparing spiritual with credal conviction, "Our motto no longer is 'I believe, but 'I know." Belief may be instantaneous, but knowledge will be gradual; and so it is that, standing at a certain fixed point in very many years' study of spiritualism, I pause, and so to say, empanelling a jury ask the question it seems I ought to answer at others' asking Am I a Spiritualist?
Free interchange of pulpits, a system of reciprocal re-ordination, a "merger" of church property and parsons, an "irreducible minimum" of credal insistencies these, and others even more ingeniously compromising, are the well-meaning schemes that are put forward, and in the process one point after another is surrendered, as a quid pro quo for the formal and technical capitulation of some other religious group.

But, like all other Unitarians, he makes no credal demands on mankind, save only the one affirmation of their common faith, with its inevitable ergo: God is Love, and therefore to be worshipped.
We all learned to respect and so to love one another more indeed, lifelong friendships were developed and that irrespective of our hereditary credal affiliations.
The assent to a certain credal basis, the meeting in great Catholic conventions, the exchange of pulpits these seem to exhaust the conceptions of large numbers, and to satisfy their ideal.
