Grosart, the learned editor of Herrick, who confesses that he can make nothing of the allusion in the following passage from The Fairie Temple: "The saint to which the most he prayes, And offers Incense Nights and Dayes, The Lady of the Lobster is Whose foot-pace he doth stroak and kiss."
These are now, however, clearly perceived to be the work of a much riper pen, that, namely, of Lyly. It is probable that the four anonymous and privately printed tracts, which Dr. Grosart has finally selected, do represent Nash's share in the Marprelate Controversy, although in one of them, "Martin's Month's Mind," I cannot say that I recognize his manner.
Other works by him are The Life of Faith , Reasons of the Christian Religion , and Christian Directory . Practical Works in 23 vols. edited with memoirs by W. Orme, also Lives by A.B. Grosart , Dean Boyle , and J.H. Davies . Novelist, wrote several stories under the name of "Edna Lyall," which were very popular.
There is a thin veil of pastoralism over the whole, with here and there a more definite note as in 'Sonnet' 75, a poem of over two hundred lines lamenting his lady's cruelty Of Sir Edward Dyer's works no early edition was published. Such isolated poems as have survived were collected by Grosart in 1872 from a variety of sources.

He was from 1577 onward an active writer both of prose and verse, and a poet of real mark in the days of Elizabeth and James the First, though it was left to Dr. A. B. Grosart to be, in 1875-79, the first editor of his collected works in an edition limited to a hundred copies.
