Passing Lybia, Hercules came to the end of the Mediterranean Sea, Neptune's domain, and there set up two pillars namely, Mounts Calpe and Abyla on each side of the Straits of Gibraltar.

This great city controlled the other Phœnician cities, part of Sicily, Numidia, Mauritania, Lybia—in short, the northern part of Africa, and colonies in Spain and the islands of the western part of the Mediterranean. His purse was made of the cod of an elephant, which was given him by Herr Pracontal, proconsul of Lybia.
